Error import excel file in Sharepoint list
In the main site of my Sharepoint site I tried to create a list through an import of an excel datasheet. I got the following error: “Method post of object IOWSPostData failed”. After searching the internet I came to the following solution. Under “C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office12\1033″ there is a file that is named EXPTOOWS.XLA. It is possible to open this file. At first you don’t see anything but then you can press <ALT> F11 to get into the code. In the initialize you can change the following line:
lVer = Application.SharePointVersion(URL)
Into
lVer = Application.SharePointVersion(URL)
lVer = 2
It is said that this will solve everything. But after I did this I got another Error: “Cannot connect to the server at this time. Import Failed”. It seems that it only works when you are on a subsite. If anyone has a solution to this problem on the mainsite, please post it.

Ok today I had the same issue and I solved it.
First it seems that it stopped working when I installed Sharepoint Designer 2007 over Microsoft Office 2003. So I assume that when I want to import an excel file it uses the EXPTOOWS.XLA in the Designer 2007 and there is an issue. So I renamed this file as EXPTOOWS.XLA.BAK and I copied the older one from the Office 2003 directory to Sharepoint Designer 2007 directory and it works great…
